The NBA has revealed a slew of notable dates for the 2020-21 season.
Individual player workouts and Media “Week” will begin on Tuesday, Dec. 1, and will go until next Saturday. Group workouts will start the following day.
The preseason, which will mark the first live NBA action outside of the Orlando bubble since March, will start on Dec. 11 and run through Dec. 19.
On Dec. 22, the 72-game 2020-21 regular season will officially tip-off. As previously announced, this unprecedented schedule will feature a formally-labeled “First Half” and “Second Half.”
The “First Half” will last until March 4.
March 5 through March 10 will be the All-Star break. The festivities were supposed to be held in Indianapolis, but the NBA announced earlier this week that Indy’s hosting turn would be pushed back until 2024.
The “Second Half” will begin on March 11 and will run until May 16. The league’s new “Play-In Tournament” will go down from May 18-21, while the 2021 playoffs will begin on May 22 and run through July 22 â ending a few weeks before the postponed Tokyo Olympics.
The All-Star break from March 5th to the 10th. The NBAâs trade deadline should be sometime around then as well.

Notably, on the weekend of May 13-15, the 2020 Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame class will be enshrined in Springfield, MA. The 2020 class carries a particular star power and emotional resonance, as it includes the late Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant, along with his decorated peers, Tim Duncan and Kevin Garnett.
WNBA star Tamika Catchings, former Houston Rockets head coach Rudy Tomjanovich, long-time Oklahoma State coach Eddie Sutton, Baylor women’s coach Kim Mulkey, Division II coach Barbara Stevens, and FIBA executive Patrick Baumann will also be enshrined in May. The ceremony was initially slated for August but was postponed indefinitely due to the pandemic.
